I’ve been a person always. I mean always involved with art. From fine arts to martial arts. It’s bee a somewhat unconcious road yet I can’t deny it’s true. I even did a lot of dance. True

It’s not a testimony as much as just a premise to express that I feel if art was more appreciated, that culture would eliminate this distorted sense of life. We treat others like shit. We ignore poverty if we can relegate it to something abstract or happening in some far off land. To humans who really count less than us. I swear our indifference and self congratulatory views have made us distant cousins .

Art it will be argued is subjective. That’s cool because this implies effect. This media is supposed to disturb the soul. Agitate and stimulate. We’ve somehow lost this in the mania of commercialism. Well not to dispair. Balance will be regained if only for a moment. Let art be your being. If not as a vocation then as a healing force you share with your private moments. It’s essential.

Production versus promotion

I find the landscape of this instant music phenom becoming more ridiculous and time consuming. I’m from the old school. You get with the producer, sketch out the music theme and line up, session with the engineers and turn it over to be cooked and gone.

Presently I have to then get the music uploaded to the distributors, and blast the net saying that I’ve finished a piece. Immediately it becomes yet another mp3 blast on some cloud and I get hit with someone making the same announcement regarding their work. It wears me completely out.

The creativity is drained by sheer overload of social posting and blurbs. The inevitable balancing act ensues. Choose to actually make decent music, or spend hours just talking about it. wow

Renewal of the gift

I imagine that most endure the gradual cycles of creativity. I’m certainly not the exception to the rule. It’s been a very busy year for myself. Its been the peaks and valleys between progress and the sparring with hubris.

We’ve been blessed with opportunities beyond expectation. The flip side is a work load that stretches down the calendar year 2012 like a road. Gratitude.

I have a new band in addition to the Tribe 2k. It’s simply the HAYOTT CYPHER. It’s succinct and the work will reflect the energy of raw talent that the fans have come to expect. So support the effort and the music will reflect the gift. Daryl Hayott SR.

Mp3 is the low income housing of music

I mean everyone I run into, work with, converse or travel with has the same problem. Quality sound via the internet baby called Mp3. It’s crap. Well not unless u r a basement studio commando with absolutely minimum music foundation.

The heavy Bass synth, 2 note, drum track type of person. Hell u can throw sounds against the wall and come out with a cd with two notes. I’m speaking to the cats that actually know how to play. They don’t carry studios in their back pack and toss out three minute samples and loops and call themselves artist. GIVE US A BREAK.

Mp3 compress sound to the extent that one who smashes up a bag of potato chips into crumbs and trying to play it off like its the same thing. We’re stuck in a tunnel of quality vs. flexibility . Mp3 is the universal pass to post on these user friendly, me me me sites. Wave files are the unloved cousins. With social sites changing the dynamic of it’s look every other moon cycle, mp3′s is the only steady medium to throw sounds up and post.

I’m headed up to MIT to see if their genius pool have anything on the cusp. If they don’t , I’m taking up golf.

The scenery needs a jump.

Having just experienced a tornado last week in Western Mass, needless to say it was interesting. I was out in the yard with the dogs and a woman came zooming down the street { the wrong way }, yelling that I should hit the basement. I must say I found it comical being that this is supposed to be Paul Revere’s job in this town.

I thought of not the finality of life, nor my past transgressions, But what I did think of was that nature has again awakened the dorment primal awareness of our collective mortality. How it takes an extreme to get us to appreciate the subtleties of life. The vanity of our pursuits and the folly of the superficial preoccupations of everday life.

We need a jump start from time to time. The scenery becomes too predictable.

I’ve been working pretty hard on one of my weaker instruments, lead guitar. I ‘ve always taken my hat off to the cats that seem so consumed emotionally with the experience of five strings. Since i’m a drummer by nature I’ve always been locked more into the bottom than the axe.

For the H2OH project I’m mainly a drummer. I’ve been humbled by the outstanding bass work of the cats involved. So I don’t believe any guitar players have to worry about me showing up. lol. In any case, I’m pushing the envelope on the current CD project with a few axe leads. Stand by.

I ‘m always pleased when I encounter a little difficulty artistically. It’s at that point that I have to look for tools I may not have, or simply rusted. If you can get through without resorting to switching the work to your comfort zone, there’s a plus.
The arc of creativity is not rigid or fixed. The countless pundits that swear that they have this magic potion that serves them are usually close. Dramatic artist, are usually referencing this when talking about “being in the moment”.
Whatever your point of view it’s essential in my opinion that you keep a tight relationship with it. If not you risk being predictable. Essential to your inspiration is constant change. Jump off the artistic bridge. Daryl Hayott sr.

There’s rarely been a time that I haven’t heard the sky is falling. It’s the mantra of a fear based mindset. Those same folks use expressions like “the powers that be”. Who are these mysterious entities we give so much credit to? Faceless all powerful brokers of what is relevant.
I for one am not feeling it. No mysterious force can govern you without the complete surrender of your common sense. Sounds naive maybe but, I live it. Take your craft to heart and realize most artist whom are revered now, died broke or insane. Once you recognize that maybe your creativity is self expressive and not for subjective public scrutiny, a calm will cross you. Just play, paint, photograph whatever. See the sky as an infinite canvas as opposed to a ceiling vulnerable to gravity. Or simply put greed. Without vanity, be accountable to the craft period.

ARTIST BURDEN PT 4

Spice it up

I labored for the last two evenings in session. I play drums this time out. Learning the pieces isn’t difficult. I guess it’s my fear of numbing repetition. How many ways can you serve potatoes?

I cannot be allowed to become an organic beat machine. I have to spice it up. The way I go about it depends on my imagination. What I do is play a complete different piece. I go into a different groove all together.

I wouldn’t suggest that a novice do this. I would demand that they do if they want to stay fresh. Keep it spicy. DH
